We Want You, To Join SMCDC! Apply to Join Our Committees

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears. For it is time to replenish the ranks and further grow our local chapter of the Social Media Club, and we want you! Whether you have 20 followers or 20,000 followers, Social Media Club DC (SMCDC) is seeking new members for each of our committees. Applications will be accepted from now until August 15, but that doesn’t mean you should put this off until the last minute. Last year we had over 100 people apply to join our crew, and we only have a small amount of openings for each time.

Who We Are Looking For

A Note About Time Commitments
In addition to weekly/monthly Committee duties (~3 hrs/week), Committee members are required to attend in-person meetings once a quarter with their Committee VP. Committee members that do not pull their weight will be asked to leave their position at the recommendation of the Committee VP and at the board’s discretion.

Description of the Teams

Events Committee (11 events per year)

Description of duties: Event committee will plan for events to be held once a month on a Wednesday from 6:30pm to 8pm. Each event needs a venue, a sponsor, and a topic theme. Event responsibilities include: working closely with the Sponsorship Committee to provide resources for planning and coordinating events, including: providing a list of venues and pricing for vendors, securing relevant and engaging speakers, providing all logistical information to participants and members and working with the Marketing Committee to make sure the event is being promoted according to schedule. The Committee is also responsible for organizing at least two networking events throughout the year, generally in December & July. The Events Committee is also responsible for developing the event abstract, and composing the messaging for each event with relevant links, logistical information, and upcoming community events to promote. Committee VPs are responsible for coordinating one mandatory in-person meeting with their team once a quarter. President will attend as needed.

Sponsorship Committee

Description of duties: This Committee is in charge of procuring sponsorships and funds by the sponsors for each monthly event. The team reports to the board member who is the Vice President of Sponsorship on all transactions. A ledger will be maintained for all sponsors of each event. Solicitations to corporations and local businesses will be encouraged. Team members must be outgoing, personable and self-starters with a busy rolodex. They must quickly act on incoming requests for sponsorship. These duties can be divided up on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to ensure continuity and coordination between the team members. It is up to the Committee VP to set a schedule for their team and make sure the interaction is happening. Committee VPs are responsible for coordinating one mandatory in-person meeting with their team once a quarter. President will attend as needed.

Digital Content and Community Committee

Description of Duties: The digital team manages member communications and content. The community manager team members are responsible for the following: daily management of Twitter account – responding to @ and DM replies; daily checking of Facebook page and group for any new comments or posts by members – interact and respond; weekly checking of LinkedIn page – accept new member requests, moderate discussion board; daily checking of blog posts for comments etc. These duties can be divided up on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to ensure continuity and coordination between the team members. It is up to the Committee VP to set a schedule for their team and make sure the interaction is happening. The Digital Committee team members are responsible for requesting, creating, and editing content for the member newsletter and blog. Team members will write a monthly member spotlight piece, collect and format job postings, and identify other relevant content. They will also establish a calendar for the newsletter, including publish dates and deadlines for submissions. Finally, team members are to coordinate communications with the Events Committee to ensure the newsletter content and publish date does not conflict with other SMC-DC communications. The Digital Committee is also responsible for keeping a current list of the e-mail listserv, to be BCC’d each month with announcements for upcoming events and recaps of previous events. Committee VP is responsible for coordinating one mandatory in-person meeting with their team once a quarter. President will attend as needed.

Marketing and Partnerships Committee

Description of duties: The marketing and partnerships team is responsible for the advertising and marketing of all events and the capturing of content surrounding events and the direct history of Social Media Club DC itself. All marketing will use the official social media accounts associated with the chapter to promote the events. In addition, this team is in charge of the content posted to the blog relating to the events (before and after). This team will ensure that pictures and video are always taken at events and content created by members of Social Media Club DC are tagged and posted in the proper forums such as Facebook and Flickr – as to be properly represented on the official blog. While the Digital Committee will be responsible for the ongoing content on the social media profiles, Marketing is responsible for pushing out all content related to SMC-DC events. Marketing is also responsible for interacting with other community groups (IABDC, PRSA, WWPR) and other local chapters (SMC-Balt, SMC-RVA, SMC-VB) to help co-promote events and help out where needed (provide event support, speaker ideas, etc.). These duties can be divided up on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to ensure continuity and coordination between the team members.
